In October 2023, the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation was held in Beijing, and the Belt and Road International Education and Training Center for Geosciences was included in the Forum’s list of practical cooperation projects. With the approval of the Ministry of Natural Resources of P.R. China, on January 22, 2024, the China Geological Survey and China University of Geosciences signed a co-construction agreement. On November 26, 2024, the Belt and Road International Education and Training Center for Geosciences was officially inaugurated at China University of Geosciences.
The Belt and Road International Education and Training Center for Geosciences aims to precisely serve the safeguarding of national energy and resource security and to support geoscience development in Belt and Road partner countries. Leveraging the disciplinary strengths of China University of Geosciences, the Center focuses on the core needs of Belt and Road countries in geosciences and mineral resources, and provides degree education and technical and management training for universities, research institutes, geological and mineral resource management departments, and practitioners in relevant countries. The Center’s activities include but are not limited to:
1. Supporting professionals in geosciences and mineral resources from Belt and Road partner countries in pursuing degree programs;
2. Conducting short-term training programs for technical and managerial personnel from domestic and international geological and mining enterprises;
3. Jointly carrying out internships and professional development activities to support geoscience and mineral resource professionals in Belt and Road partner countries;
4. Promoting industry-education cooperation in geosciences with Belt and Road partner countries through academic exchanges, joint research, technical seminars, and curriculum development.
