On December 17, 2024, the inaugural meeting of the African Alumni Association of China University of Geosciences was held. Xu Feng, Secretary of the Party General Branch of the School of International Education of our university, Wang Ying, Deputy Director of the Alumni and Social Cooperation Office, and more than 1,000 Chinese and foreign teachers and student representatives attended the ceremony online and offline. Jian An, a Rwandan postdoctoral fellow, hosted the ceremony.

At the beginning of the meeting, the participants watched the promotional video of African alumni of China University of Geosciences, which showed the warm congratulations and sincere expectations of African alumni from various countries for the establishment of the African Alumni Association. Representatives of African current students presented the opening performance "African Mother", which showcased the unique charm of African culture through various artistic forms such as recitation, singing, dancing, and African drums.

Xu Feng said that the establishment of the African Alumni Association is an important part of the global alumni network of our university and a solid bridge connecting the alma mater with alumni in Africa. Our university will work together with all parties to build the African Alumni Association into a dynamic and influential organization, and a bridge and link for China-Africa friendship.

Daming, a Beninese Secretary-General of the African Alumni Association, delivered a report on the Preparatory Group of the African Alumni Branch, detailing the preparation work. He said that CUG has cultivated many outstanding African alumni who hold important positions in their respective fields and have made contributions to the development of Africa. In the future, he will actively commit to the liaison and exchange between CUG alumni in Africa and their alma mater.

Wang Ying, Deputy Director of the Alumni and Social Cooperation Office, read out the "Reply of the General Alumni Association of China University of Geosciences to the Application for the Establishment of the African Alumni Association of China University of Geosciences" and announced the establishment of the African Alumni Association.

The meeting deliberated and adopted the "Charter of the African Alumni Association (Draft)" and the "Proposed List of Members of the Council of the African Alumni Association".
