On September 21, the 2026 Commemoration of the International Day of Peace kicked off in Wuhan, Hubei Province. PENG Qinghua, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress and President of the Chinese Association for Peace, LIU Haixing, Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee (the International Department), and GUAN Zhiou, Secretary of the Hubei Provincial Party Committee, attended and addressed the opening ceremony. UN Secretary-General António Guterres delivered a video address.
Over 300 participants attended the event, including political party dignitaries, representatives of peace organizations, think tank scholars and civilian friendship figures from 60 countries, as well as diplomatic envoys of several countries to China and representatives of relevant domestic authorities. Key foreign attendees included Mohamed Ould Meguett, Speaker of the National Assembly of Mauritania, Jazlan Yaakub, Deputy President of the Senate of Malaysia, and Nadezhda Trenkova, former Deputy Prime Minister of Bulgaria.
This event was guided by the International Department, with the theme of “Cooperate to Address Challenges and Build a Peaceful Homeland”. WANG Wenqi, Vice President of CUG, attended the opening ceremony. JENNIFER SANFORD MOSHI (Chinese name: Zhenzhen), a Tanzanian doctoral student at CUG, participated in the commemoration event and was featured on CCTV News. She conveyed the sincere aspiration of young students for cherishing peace and promoting international friendship to the world.

The event gathered political dignitaries, international guests and representatives from all walks of life from multiple countries. Participants conducted in-depth exchanges on remembering history, safeguarding world peace and promoting international communication and cooperation, embodying the shared pursuit of humanity for peaceful development. As a representative of international students, Zhenzhen shared her insights based on her study experience in China. Her participation fully demonstrates the global vision and peaceful aspiration of CUG international students.
