Secretary of CUG Party Committee delivers keynote Speech at the 2026 “Belt and Road” Geoscience Cooperation and Mining Investment Forum

On September 11, the Belt and Road Geoscience Cooperation and Mining Investment Forum was successfully held during the 2026 (28th) China International Mining Conference. Hosted by China Geological Survey of the Ministry of Natural Resources, the forum was co-organized by the Development Research Center of China Geological Survey, "Belt and Road" International Education and Training Center for Geosciences of China University of Geosciences (CUG), and other organizations.


Leaders from China Geological Survey, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of Belarus, the Ministry of Petroleum and Minerals of Timor-Leste, the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy of Mozambique, the General Department of Mineral Resources of Cambodia, the Zimbabwe Geological Survey, and the Ministry of Mining and Metallurgy of Bolivia attended the forum and delivered remarks. LIU Jie, Secretary of CUG Party Committee, was present and delivered a keynote speech titled Strengthening Geoscience Education and Research Cooperation to Promote the Sustainable Development of Belt and Road Countries.

LIU Jie pointed out that “Belt and Road” participating countries and regions constitute a global energy and mineral resource-rich belt, while many of these areas have fragile ecological environments. They rely heavily on geoscience professionals for resource development and conservation, environmental governance and restoration, as well as infrastructure construction and operation. From the perspective of international geoscience education, he introduced the concepts and training achievements of CUG’s geoscience programs for international students. He emphasized that through geoscience education and research cooperation, CUG work with “Belt and Road” participating countries and regions to jointly build demonstration zones for talent cultivation, collaborative zones for academic innovation, support zones for regional development, zones for multicultural integration, and hubs for technology transfer.


CUG will build a world-class “Belt and Road” base for geoscience education and research, continuously deepen cooperation in energy and mineral resources, ecological protection, disaster prevention and mitigation, climate change and other fields, and contribute CUG wisdom and strength to advancing sustainable development “Belt and Road” countries.
