June 7, 2026 – The grand final of the 14th Hubei "Challenge Cup" College Students’ Entrepreneurship Competition, themed "Innovative Hubei, Youth Empowerment & Youth Endeavor", successfully concluded at China University of Geosciences (CUG). Two teams featuring international students from CUG won provincial first prizes.
The competition ranks among Hubei’s most prestigious and influential events for university students’ scientific innovation and entrepreneurship. A total of 1,884 projects from 126 higher education institutions across the province signed up for this year’s contest, covering eight tracks: Advanced Manufacturing, Next-Generation Information Technology, Biomedicine & Health Technology, New Energy & New Materials, Modern Agriculture & Food Technology, New Consumption & Cultural Creativity, Modern Services & Social Governance, and International Exchange & Cooperation.
The award-winning teams consist of international students enrolled at CUG. During the final presentation session, CUG international student participants delivered poised presentations and responded confidently to judges’ inquiries. They elaborated lucidly on their projects’ innovative highlights, technical strengths and development roadmaps. Their rigorous logical thinking, original creative concepts and outstanding comprehensive capabilities won high recognition from the judging panel.

Project brief: Responding actively to the high-quality development of the national Belt and Road Initiative, this project draws on high-level scientific and technological innovation platforms, international exchange and cooperation platforms, talent training platforms for A+ Disciplines, and the intelligent oilfield innovation team of CUG that support Belt and Road development.
Targeting core bottlenecks in fine natural gas exploitation across the Middle East — including difficult stratigraphic identification, slow model iteration and delayed drill bit adjustment — we develop an integrated intelligent drill bit control system integrating while-drilling sensing, modeling and geosteering. The project aims to contribute Chinese expertise to efficient and green global energy exploration and exploitation.

Project brief: This project targets the prevention and control of geohazards including landslides, rockfalls and debris flows under complex geological conditions such as high-cold high-altitude zones, heavy rainfall areas and intensely fractured tectonic belts. It develops a full-process intelligent prevention and control platform featuring an integrated space-air-ground perception system, intelligent identification, detailed field investigation, multi-field monitoring, and dual-driven early warning for the entire evolution cycle of geohazards.
CUG attaches great importance to innovation and entrepreneurship education for international students. It consistently integrates scientific and technological practice as well as cross-cultural innovation into the talent training system for international students.
