On May 14, a delegation led by Mr. Ekaphat Premyodhin, Minister-Counsellor of the Royal Thai Embassy in China, visited China University of Geosciences (CUG) for friendly exchanges. Prof. XIA Fan, Vice President of CUG, together with officials from the International Education College as well as faculty and student representatives, attended the meeting.
XIA Fan extended a warm welcome to Mr. Ekaphat Premyodhin and his delegation, and provided a comprehensive introduction to CUG’s disciplinary strengths, talent cultivation, and international exchange and cooperation initiatives. He noted that, against the backdrop of the high-quality advancement of the Belt and Road Initiative, the traditional friendship between China and Thailand, often described as “China and Thailand are as close as one family,” has continued to deepen and grow stronger over time.
He emphasized that CUG has always attached great importance to educational cooperation and youth exchanges with Thailand, actively building platforms for talent development and academic exchange. Leveraging its strengths in geosciences, resources, and environmental studies, CUG has steadily promoted cooperation with Thai universities and governmental agencies in the fields of geosciences and mineral resources, cultivating a large number of outstanding international professionals for Thailand and other ASEAN countries.
XIA Fan added that CUG will continue to fully harness the platform and resource advantages of the "Belt and Road" International Education and Training Center for Geosciences, further strengthening in-depth cooperation with Thai universities and related institutions in the geoscience field in talent cultivation, joint scientific research, and academic exchanges. Through these efforts, CUG aims to contribute educational expertise to building a more stable, prosperous, and sustainable China–Thailand community with a shared future and to advancing high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.

Mr. Ekaphat Premyodhin highly commended the achievements made by CUG in geoscience talent cultivation and educational exchanges between China and Thailand. He noted that the friendship between the two countries enjoys a long history, with bilateral cooperation built on a solid foundation and holding enormous potential. The Thai government attaches great importance to exchanges and cooperation with Chinese universities, and CUG possesses profound academic heritage and strong educational capabilities, with its distinctive strengths and outstanding advantages in the field of geosciences.
He stated that the Embassy will actively serve as a bridge to promote practical cooperation between Thai universities, mineral resource-related institutions, and CUG, while continuously deepening exchanges and interactions between the two sides in geosciences, humanities, education, and scientific research. Through these efforts, both countries will further strengthen friendship among young people and promote the sustained and long-term development of China–Thailand relations.
The visit from the Royal Thai Embassy represents not only an important initiative in promoting China–Thailand exchanges in humanities, science, and education, but also a concrete demonstration of the role played by "Belt and Road" International Education and Training Center for Geosciences in enhancing platform effectiveness and expanding channels for international cooperation.
Taking this exchange meeting as an opportunity, CUG will continue to deepen friendly exchanges with Thai universities and institutions, steadily advance the implementation of educational cooperation programs, and inject sustained momentum into the high-quality development of Belt and Road cooperation as well as the long-term growth of China–Thailand friendship.
