Inauguration of the Belt and Road International Education and Training Center for Geosciences

On November 26, the inauguration ceremony of the Belt and Road International Education and Training Center for Geosciences (hereinafter referred to as “the Center”) was held at the International Education College of China University of Geosciences (CUG). YAN Chengyi, member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice President of China Geological Survey; FAN Li, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Cooperation (Department of Maritime Rights and Interests) of the Ministry of Natural Resources; LIU Jie, Party Secretary of CUG; LI Jianwei, President of the University; representatives from the Ministry of Natural Resources, China Geological Survey, representatives from relevant university departments and offices, and international students attended the ceremony.

In his speech, LI Jianwei stated that the inauguration of the Center marks another important step in deepening strategic cooperation between CUG and China Geological Survey, symbolizing a new level of collaboration in jointly serving major national strategies. As one of China’s leading universities in geoscience higher education，and one of the most important training bases in China for international students majoring in geology and mineral resources under the Chinese Government Scholarship Program, CUG has nurtured nearly 10,000 high-caliber international professionals with a strong understanding of and affinity for China，from more than 100 countries, among whom students from Belt and Road partner countries account for 80 percent. CUG will work closely with China Geological Survey to build the Center into a world-class international talent cultivation hub, contributing CUG’s wisdom and strength to promoting harmony between humanity and nature and building a global community with a shared future.

YAN Chengyi noted that the Center was included in the list of practical cooperation projects in the Chair’s Statement of the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, which set forth requirements and provided direction for advancing international cooperation in geoscience education and training among Belt and Road partner countries. He emphasized that the establishment of the Center is an important measure to implement President Xi Jinping’s important remarks and the consensus reached by leaders of participating countries, and is of great significance for further enhancing cooperation in the geosciences among Belt and Road partner countries.
