Recently, China University of Geosciences (CUG) signed a cooperation agreement on geosciences talent cultivation with the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Sierra Leone.
According to the agreement, both sides will leverage their respective strengths and focus on geosciences, geological exploration, and related fields. They will further deepen practical cooperation in areas such as talent development, academic exchange, scientific research collaboration, and capacity building, so as to better align educational cooperation with Sierra Leone’s needs in mining development and resource governance.
This signing marks another important achievement in the continuous deepening of cooperation between China and Sierra Leone in the fields of education, science and technology, and mining. It follows the visit to China by President Julius Maada Bio of the Republic of Sierra Leone in 2024, during which he was awarded an honorary doctorate by CUG.
The conclusion of this agreement will further consolidate the foundation for bilateral cooperation in geosciences education and the mining sector. It will also expand CUG’s capacity to serve China’s major-country diplomacy and explore effective pathways for pragmatic China-Africa cooperation. Moreover, it will promote deeper collaboration with African countries in talent cultivation and scientific research, contributing to the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative and to building a closer China-Africa community with a shared future.
