About The Program
The discipline of oil and gas exploration, geology and chemical engineering are mutually connected, constitute the oil and gas industry as whole production, scientific research and teaching mechanism. With the development of petroleum industry and the development of new technology, the basics and engineering disciplines involved in this field are becoming more and more extensive.
Since the past 20 years, we have formed the research direction of development geology, reservoir characterization, reservoir description, reservoir simulation, CBM development, heavy oil development, drilling technology and equipment, cementing and completion engineering, etc, and have since portrayed their own advantages in personnel training in terms of academic research and social services.
By offering petroleum programs in our department has made a positive contribution to exploration and development of oil and gas fields, and greatly promoted the development of the discipline both in China and around the world.

The faculty and staff at CUG are very friendly and dedicated to enriching student’s life. The International Education College has provided many opportunities for me to explore Chinese Culture and also to satisfy my academic and sporting interests. My advisors are very knowledgeable in their fields and they always encourage me to do well. Student’s life at CUG is very active and I have participated in many competitions and cultural performances over years; I even won first prize in the China Taekwondo Competition twice. I will never forget the wonderful experiences I've had at CUG and the memories I've shared with my friends from all over the world.
Our petroleum engineering program ensures that all students have a good background of math, physics, chemistry, geology, and the engineering sciences. This solid foundation helps the students understand the courses taught in the school, such as; reservoir characterization and modeling, drilling, basin modeling, geological well logging, production engineering, petroleum economics, risk analysis, seismic interpretation and reservoir engineering, not to mention but a few. Related disciplines such as geology, sedimentary environment and facies, and environment management are also offered in the university to help create all round students with a broad knowledge of the field.
The petroleum industry may well be the most complex and demanding industry in the world, because petroleum deposits occur underground, often far below the surface of the earth, and because its contents may be dispersed throughout a spatially and geologically extensive and diverse underground region making petroleum production a complex and economically essential task. As a discipline, petroleum engineering therefore mainly focuses on scientific research and talent cultivation for the industry. Its main research lies on subjective and objective constrains, fundamental characteristics and change rules regarding oil and gas engineering entities like formation, fluid and engineering equipment. All these aspects are fully covered in the university’s prospectus.
