In our school, we abide by the philosophy of “educating students as our fundamental mission, striving for excellence in teaching and research, and initiating everlasting innovation in management”. We positively fulfill the goal of “establishing the school with high quality, developing the school with uniqueness and consolidating the school with talented faculty” and constantly further the reforms of teaching and education. We strive to educate high quality graduates, comprehensively improve education quality and efficiency, and gradually escalate our school to a higher level, in an effort to realize a great-leap-forward in disciplinary development.
1. The complete disciplinary structure provides a great platform for educating students
The school currently has 10 undergraduate majors, namely, Business Administration (bilingual), Economics, Marketing, International Economics and Trade, Accounting, Tourism Management, Information Management and Information Systems, Financial Management, Statistics and Engineering Management.
Our school possesses a post-doctoral research station for Management Science and Engineering, and it is entitled to offer two first-level discipline PhD degrees on Management Science and Engineering and Applied Economics and five first-level discipline master degrees i.e. Management Science and Engineering, Applied Economics, Business Administration, Theoretical Economics and Statistics. Besides, the school has the right to offer 8 professional degrees in Master of Business Administration (MBA), Engineering Management, Accounting, Tourism Management, Assets Evaluation, Industrial Engineering, Project Management and Logistics Engineering. In addition, the school has the qualification to grant second bachelor degrees for Business Administration and Economics. According to the assessments by the Graduate Education and Development Centre of the Ministry of Education of the Chinese central government, Management Science and Engineering ranks 32 and Applied Economics 34 of all universities in China.
2. Abundant educational resources guarantee the cultivation of students
We have a national-level experimental program for undergraduate students -- the international innovative experimental program for undergraduate students majoring in business administration. Management has been successively awarded the national-level elite course and bilingual teaching demonstration course. Management Science and Engineering and Applied Economics are awarded Hubei provincial key disciplines, and Business Administration (bilingual) is one of the famous brand majors in Hubei province for undergraduate students. Business Administration bilingual faculty is awarded the provincial level excellent faculty of higher education institution in Hubei Province. Besides, we also have two provincial-level elite courses - Financial Management and Marketing.
There are 164 staffs working at our school, of whom there are 141 full-time faculty members and 23 supporting staffs. Among the faculty members, there are 26 professors and 71 associate professors; 81 of them with PhD degrees and 4 of them have received the support of the new century excellent talent program sponsored by the Ministry of Education of the central government
At present, we have many professional laboratories, such as a comprehensive laboratory of economics and management, an accounting simulation lab, a tourism management lab, an engineering management lab, an MBA case-analysis lab, a library, a simulation lab for computer management, an international economics and trade simulation lab, a comprehensive simulation lab for statistical analysis and a comprehensive financial simulation lab etc. There are also many research centers and institutes, such as the Research Institute of Resources and Environmental Economy, the Center for International Cooperation in E-Business, and the Academy of Tourism Development etc, providing a guarantee for teaching and research in the related fields.
3. Good education mechanisms offer a broad space for developing high-level students
We have educated a lot of innovative students excellent in character and learning by a series of education mechanisms: for instance, the “Li Siguang Undergraduate Innovative Students Education Program”, the recommendation system for admission to graduate studies without entrance examination, the college student “Challenge Cup” and the “Academic Navigation Program”. Each year, more than 15% of all the undergraduate students graduated from our school are able to pursue their further graduate studies in our university or other famous universities in China through the recommendation system. To date, we have educated a great number of graduates with both ability and integrity for governmental departments at all levels, colleges and universities, research academies and institutes, financial agencies and many other enterprises.
4. Frequent academic exchanges provide favorable opportunities for further development
Our school always attaches great importance to international exchanges and cooperation. By now, we have established stable academic links with many famous universities such as Alfred University in the USA, Kingston University in Britain, Waterloo University in Canada, Texas A&M University, Australia National University, Warsaw School of Economics in Poland and Seoul National University in Korea. We actively develop international academic exchanges for undergraduate students, promote education internalization and recommend our students to many universities such as Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), Konkuk University (Korea) and Bryant University (the USA) to participate in a short-term visits and training for entrepreneurship and innovation. Besides, we irregularly invite distinguished experts from famous universities and institutions from the UK and the USA to our school to give lectures. We have already successfully held 12 International Conferences on e-Business, 10 Resources and Environment Economic Management Forums, 131 Economics & Management Forums and seminars, providing those students who are interested in cutting edge research on issues in management and economics with a good platform for international academic exchanges, and those high-level professionals who are suited to the requirements of the society in the new era with good opportunities for training and advanced expertise.
Under the guidance of the scientific development view, we will continue to promote the combination of disciplines of economics and management with CUG’s traditional disciplines. We will strengthen student education, team building, disciplinary establishment, research, social services, Party building and spiritual civilization construction etc, adhere to the road of scientific development, connotative development and harmonious development, in an effort to improve the education quality and management level to shape our school with distinctive features in economics and management with international influence!
